Brendan Sullivan has been an educator for 25 years, and he joined YSC Academy in 2020. He was born and raised in the city of Philadelphia, where he graduated from St. Joseph’s Preparatory School and the University of Pennsylvania. He is dual-certified by the state of Pennsylvania to teach social studies and language arts. Prior to joining YSC Academy, he fulfilled roles as a teacher, department head, and varsity soccer coach at numerous Philadelphia area high schools.

Brendan’s teaching style is rooted in traditional elements of critical analysis, the Socratic method, and robust debate. He believes YSC Academy is at the forefront of a new learning paradigm that will require students and instructors to agilely perform combinations of in-person, remote, and virtual classes. Brendan has embraced the future and has enrolled all four of his sons in the YSC Academy program.

He enjoys teaching interdisciplinarily with his colleague Nick Kueny. His favorite time of year is when his students participate in formal debates in Town Hall, performing in front of their teammates, coaches, and families alike. He cites the first-ever school formal dance, which took place at Subaru Park, as one of the most memorable events at YSC Academy.
